Midsummer

The summer solstice, or midsummer, is the longest day of the year. Here in the UK, this year, it falls on 21 June.

Though it was observed, there’s very little evidence that the summer solstice was celebrated in ancient times but, over the centuries, it has come to be considered a magical time of year and a day when the fair folk are said to be particularly active.

Midsummer is a celebration of the longest day of the year so, if you desire, rise early enough to watch the sunrise and, later, watch the sunset. Like Beltane, midsummer is celebrated by lighting bonfires and decorating with flowers.

If you worship any deities associated with the sun, such as the Norse goddess Sol or the Egyptian god Ra, today could be a day to leave them offerings and give them prayers.

I hope you all have a wonderful midsummer.
